I was hoping some of you experts could provide some input on this..

I use Elaborate Byte's CloneDVD2 to backup my movies to DVD+R's. I've been using this software (along with AnyDVD) for about a year or so, and I've been using CompUSA's brand DVD+R's.

However, over the past few months, it seems only one or two out of every 5 attempts to burn a movie that they'll actually play in the player successfully. They'll start, but after a few seconds into the movie, they'll start major pixelation and breaking up, then just lock up.

I could backup the same movie 5 times, and maybe the 4th or 5th time, the disc will play completely.. It's never been this way, and I've never had any issues like this. I haven't changed anything hardware wise.

Any thoughts or suggestions for things I might try? I've tried DVDShrink, but same issues.

  2. does it play back in the pc's dvd drive? If so, then maybe your dvd player is dying out on you........thats honestly about the only thing i can think of at the moment....seems like your using pretty good programs for the process, so i dont think its that.......another idea is to try a differant type of media..buy maybe say a five pack of a differant brand and see if it does the same thing, the company may have changed manufacturing techniques or something, which would explain the problems....

I bought some CompUSA discs on sale for a really great price -- took them back 3 hours later! Your's may be better I suppose, but the point is they brand whatever they get cheap. Check out the media info here and you'll see reports of media deteriorating rapidly -- doesn't matter I wouldn't think if it was burned yet or not.

Easy way to tell is buy better discs, or try playing your DVD layout on HD before burning.
