  1. I've been using TSCV for a while and made some still-menus and all, but what I really want to know is:

Can you make DVD-like menus where you use the arrow buttons to control a selector?

Or is this process limited to Still and Motion (mpeg) menus with no control other than pressing the numeric keypad?

Forgive me if this is a newbie question but I didn't see the answer in my searches.

  3. VCDs don't support the arrows used on a DVD player (similarly, DVD players don't support numerical key presses). On a VCD menu, the only buttons you can use are "next", "prev", "return", "default" and the numbers from 1 to 99.

As for the question on what to put on a VCD menu, what is on a DVD menu?

On a VCD, I will regularly author motion/still menus for the following:
    - main menu
    - scene select screens (several)
    - special features/trailer menu
    - actor biography
    - etc.

The things which are not translatable from a DVD to a VCD are usually only audio and subtitle selection.

  4. Vitualis, some good ideas there, but i have to author these things myself, since i am not ripping DVD's, and only have the actual movie. Is it still possible? if so, could you give us some more detail please?

  5. It is a matter of creating the appropriate still and motion menus.

You are only limited by your creativity.

Have a look at the articles here for some ideas: http://www.geocities.com/medinotes/vcd

Alternatively, you could try to download the PAL/NTSC Demo VCD from the VCDImager site ( http://www.vcdimager.org ) and burn it to see a complex authored VCD in action.
