I'm doing this right now for a friend. Her plasma tv is mounted above a fireplace and all of her equipment is in a small cabinet to the side of the fireplace. We just drilled holes behind the tv and the cabinet and fed the wires through to the other side which is a closet. It runs straight across her closet wall, but hey who cares its just a closet. We did wrap the wires and paint them to match the walls to make it a little less obvious. Its not the most elegant solution, and of course doesn't work unless you've got a kinda throwaway room on the other side, but a monkey could do it and it looks perfect when in the tv room. Filling in and painting over the holes is a cinch if she ever moves or rearranges her equipment.

Other than that your only real options are to run it up or down the wall and along the baseboards/ceiling or into the carpet, or to do a full in wall wiring job which will require tearing up a route in your wall and then filling it back in.

If you've furniture nearby maybe you can get creative and run it through that somehow.

If you could, I would use a rotozip to cut holes for recessed connection panels. Install a flush mount electrical boxes along with plates that have the connectors necessary to hook up your flat panel. Run wires to connect the two boxes inside the wall. If you can hook these up within the same stud width, that would be easiest.

I did smearbricks idea for a friend. Got a stud finder and pencil marked a stud. Used a utility knife to cut through the wall and make a whole so I could fit an outlet box in. I wall-fished lines from the attic and pulled them through the whole. Fed them through an outlet box and attached the box inside the whole to the stud. I got a fancy wall plate and the modular connections for RCA/Compnent & HD-TV. I did a similar thing to run CAT5 & coaxial outlets in all the bedrooms.
