program "sees" the wrong resolution

I was wanting to make an xvid from 1 title of a dvd with several titles on it. When opening my video-ts folder, ffmpegx thinks the file has a 352 x 480 resolution. But that's not correct. It's a regular dvd with 4:3 aspect ration. Needless to say, the xvid that it made was quite strange, being taller than it is wide. Any notion why ffmpegx thinks the source format is taller than it is wide even though that's not the case....and what to do to convince it otherwise?

a. 352x480 for 4:3 aspect ratio is a valid DVD resolution.
b. To get a correct aspect ratio on your XviD, set Autosize to 4:3 in Video parameters.

Thanks....but a quick clarification....isn't 352 x 420 implying 3:4 instead of 4:3, ie isn't the order always height by width?

MPEG normally has non-square pixels, meaning the video pixels will be stretched when displayed. 352x480 is just stretched a bit further than usual.
