I have installed both of the following (not at the same time of course) in an attempt to get subtitles working with Windows Media Player 10 on Windows XP Pro SP2.

    VobSub_2.23.exe
    vsfilter.2.37_nt.exe

With the first install the AVI file plays and subtitles work but the picture is extremely grainy (all you can see is basic shapes, very little detail). Also 95% of the picture is green with a bit of blue and cyan. With the second there is no picture. The green arrow shows up in the system tray in both cases.

Without either installed the avi file plays ok but of course there are no subtitles.

I am using the very latest version of DivX. This is a DivX AVI file.

    Thanks

The same thing happens with all five of the current AVI files that I have on my computer. All are DivX and have the .sub and .idx files.

If I play a DivX file without subtitles then the picture is fine. Same goes if I delete the sub/idx files.

Load FFDShow and try again, IMHO.

FFDShow works, thanks. Took me a while to find where to turn off the letterbox but the size/color settings for the subtitles don't seem to work.
