    is it possible to defrag my paging file? i am running xp, but have been told you have to defrag the paging file separately??

    I believe there is a registry hack that lets you delete the page file when you shut down. This would be better, but I can't remember what it was. Maybe a google search will find the answer.

    There's really no point in defragging the paging file, as it's always one contiguous block any way. If you are not sure, just set paging file to none, defrag, then set paging file back.

    If you mean defragging the content of the paging file, tha's even MORE pointless as it constantly changes.

    Perfect Disk v6 does defrag the page file on a HDD and is probally the best defrag application available.

    PageFile Defrag is a good app -- defrags the page file upon boot.
    you can also use options within windows to delete all contents of the page file upon shutdown
    i believe it's somewhere in gpedit.msc

    Some 3rd party defrag programs do. Other then that I'm not sure. Maybe it you turned it off. Defragged in safe mode then turned it back on it would basicly be the same thing?
