  1. Does anyone know what video file formats the Creative Zen Vision and the Apple Video Ipod have in common? I'd want to convert some videos to a single file format that will be compatible with both players.

Also any suggestions for programs to convert my videos to work with the Zen Vision and Ipod?

    Thanks

    I guess they both play MPEG-1 mpg's?

They both support SP MPEG-4, but then it looks like the Zen requires it be in an avi container with mp3 audio where as the iPod requires it in an mp4 container with aac audio (?). mp3 in mp4 is spec compliant, but then I am not sure if it would work in an ipod. If it does then you could have an avi/mp4, then just simply remux to the other.

and you can use super 1 (ffmpeg/mencoder... gui) to create mp4/avi with sp mpeg-4.
    create mpeg1 with tmpgenc.

  4. After two days of creating video files of almost every conceiveable combination I have come to the conclusion that Creative and Apple have decided to make sure their Portable Video Players cannot share file formats.

Thanks for the suggestion about Super 1, but it failed to produce anything playable in both Quicktime and the Zen Vision.

I want a common video format for video podcasting.

    Any other suggestions? ANyone?

    Thanks
