  1. Hi,

I have downloaded a few .mp4 files from the web and cannot find a suitable codec that will play them in WMP. The two I have tried are:

    nAVI video codec
    Angelpotion Codec

Both found at http://codecs.necromancers.ru. I have also tried using AVIcodec but it doesnt recognise them.

    Any help?

Or Use GSpot and actually SEE what codec or FourCC ID that thing uses.

There are no fourCC's in mp4.

Video should be either MPEG-4 part 2 or AVC. Audio should be aac, mp3 or I guess ALS now that the specs are released.

That said it is possible to store basically anything in mp4 as a private stream.

ffdshow can decode MPEG-4, AVC, aac and mp3. Can also encode to AVC and MPEG-4.

For an mp4 a codec won't be much good without a splitter though, which is why Baldrick suggested haali's. Could also use Media Player Classic which has one built in.

Oops, me bad. I'm so used to AVI's using MPEG4 as a streaming type. :P

    Yes, do what Baldrick suggested.
