  1. Hi, I am having a problem trying to understand what i am doing wrong. I captured 2 tv programs from 2 different stations, one seems to be captured as a CBR and the other as a VBR (bit rate). Although i converted the VBR file to CBR with mainconcept mpeg encoder, when i come to join the two files together with MPEG2VCR which usually takes very little time to do, it is taking ages with this project, as if it wants to re-encode or something when it gets to the point where the second file joins the first. Why is this happening please and what can i do to solve the problem? I do need to have the files put together and made as 1 file before i proceed to make a dvd for my own use. Is there a setting somewhere or something i should be checking or changing?
All i can say as both files have AC3 type audio and are both PAL 16:9, so i am rather stuck.

    Many thanks
    Jascha

Use 2 titles on your DVD?

Would allow use of both original, without loss from re-compressing the one to cbr, & easy to set one to play right after the other.

  4. Thanks. The reason i want to have just 1 file as an mpeg2 is because it is a classical concert so i want the continuity, unless a dvd can move from 1 file to another seamlessly as if it was just 1 file. I never tried splitting a scene in two files and see if it is noticeable where it is joined by the dvd authoring process when watching the final result.

I have tried the other cutters but still there seems to have a problem when i import into adobe encore dvd. I use Prog dvb and this seems to happen when i record from a tv channel that is encrypted and using a softcam. I have nexus dvb card. Any ideas about this? I also noticed that one famous UK channel sends the signal in such a way that the recorded mpeg2 is in cbr mode, whereas say from a famous Austrian or German TV channel you end up with vbr files. What's going on?

    Thanks

Software for joining video is sometimes a bit critical that both files match pretty accurately. You might be able to fool it by changing file headers in one or both files using somethng like restream or DVD Patcher, but can't say how the results will work.

re: separate titles, it's not unusual to create small clips from your content to play with, setting up a workflow and such. create a small clip from the end of 1 vid, a 2nd from the start of the other, and see how they work in a test DVD layout. Might try this reauthoring in recode or shrink as well to get an idea of what it might look like.

Or, using both originals, consider using DGIndex & Avisynth to render a new mpg2.
