I have copied a dat file from vcd.
I can not open it with anything except xing mpg player
when I open it in xing it has no problem and has a very good quality but it can not be played in any else software such as winamp, jet audio, media player and even power dvd.
It can not be encoded in Nero, xing encoder, mpg2vcr, vcd2mpg, ....
I also tried isobuster but no answer.
How can I encode this file or anywork else to change it to a normal file and what is the problem of this file?
    Thanks

It's a piece of a VCD, taken out of its context.
Basically, it's just an mpg with some added headers. Try VCDGear - long since I used it, but at least it knows how to extract a DAT from a VCD to mpg. Not sure of if it handles a separate .dat file.

And don't double post. I removed your other identical thread.

    Would DGIndex work if not?

I think DGIndex only works with MPEG-2. VCDGear should work, come to think of it, so should ISOBuster.
    If in doubt, Google it.

yep vcdgear will do the job ... just select DAT>MPEG as extraction method ... select your .DAT file ... decide where to save the resulting MPEG and hit start (or go/decode etc whatever the button says lol (can't quite remember as it's been a while since i last used it)) it will then play in powerdvd, winamp and wmp to name but a few

  7. Here is screen shot of VCDGear to help you decide whether to use t or not.

  8. I can open VCD DAT files with TMPGEnc Plus, VirtualDub, VirtualDubMPEG2, VirtualDubMod. Media Player Classic can play isolated DAT files.

    VCD gear didn't work.
It said: "invalid pack size" or something like it when I used dat to mpg.
I also created a *.nrg image from vcd and tried to convert via "image to mpeg". It copied mpeg file but it was corrupted.

I also said that Isoboster was not useful and it copied nothing.

At least tell me why xing can play it and any else program can not.
It has a very good quality in xing and has not any error.

Did you tick the "Fix MPEG errors" tickbox in VCDGear ?

You may have to resort to something like camtasia and screencap it whilst playing in Xing.
    If in doubt, Google it.
