right my m8 has a hdd which he has had for a long time (from new),he formated it installed xp pro on it loads of times(he says). his pc started shutting down at the same time every day ,so he did the usuall thing virus check ,adware ect , nothing showed up (clean),so he decided to formate the thing and start again .
put now the hdd is asking for a admin password and not letting him formate it ,he said he has never put admin password in at all or any password in xp pro apart from places like this site, and the cannot insatall any software or drivers any more plus he has lost the broadband and dailup .
is there a way round the admin password to get it formated so he can start again or has he lost the hdd with out the password ,
or can you put it on another pc to formate it has a slave drive,
or can he put it on another pc to scan it for viruses to clean it right with a better antiveirus ,adawere /malware scanner to fix it if possible (me think not posible )
he uses AVG free and Mcafee for viruses , adawre /malwere do not now.
one more thing will his over hdd's be the same need the admin password to formate them

put it in another pc and format it.
or use bootable cd to boot then format it.
if he has the time for formatting his hd then it is better to format it than to scan it any antivirus program.

He can just take ownership of the contents using his existing admin account. From there he can do what he likes. Some reading to get him started

If he is formatting his drive completely, he wouldn't need an admin password.
