I use a D-Link router (DI-604) for three computers to access the net using CAT 5 cable. Can I use the router to share data from computer to computer? If so, how? I am no good at networking...so any help or link to tutorials would be greatly appreciated.

    thanks

  2. Sure. If all your computers are connected to the router, then each computer should be able to access the others that are connected. Use Windows explorer- My Network places, do the computers show up?

  3. Make sure that file and printer sharing is turned on.

If it is, then the data that you share will be in the shareddocs folder.

  6. Each computer must have a name.

Btw, look at your desktop, push F1, enter : networking

    Ok
Computer 1 has xp home, computer 2 has 2000.

on computer 2 I can see the shared folder on computer 1, but computer 1 doesn't show the shared folder from computer 1.

computer 2 was bought from a local company and alot of the settings were changed.

where do you guys think the problem is?

I want to use computer 2 to surf the web and download to, and just transfer files to computer 1.

    thanks

  8. They need to be in the same workgroup and you need to use the network wizard from XP on the 2000 computer and put the 2000 computer in the same network.

I have tried to run the network wizard on the 2000, with a disk made on xp, but it states that it only works with 98 and millium, not 2000.

It is 2000 pro, does that make a difference?

you shouldn't need the disk with win 2000. rt. click my computer, select properties, computer name, and 'change' button to set workgroup.
