I have downloaded several video files from the internet.
When the files are veiwed on the PC they are fine but when converted to DVD the audio goes out of sync after about 5 minutes.
This is not a gradual thing that happens as the DVD plays as mentioned in several topics on this forum, but more the video jumps slightly and that puts it out of sync.
It normally puts it about half a second out and stays like it until the next chapter starts (Which is a seperate video file) then the same thing happens.
some files it happens a few times (normally near the end) and will put the audio behind about 3 seconds.
One file missed out a complete chunk and ended up being about 40 seconds out of sync.
The files in question seem to be MPEG-1 files that look like they were ripped from or were intended to be used for VCD discs
I don't normally have any problems doing this but I normally have avi files to work from.
I am using Ulead DVD movie factory
Any ideas?

First, a huge percent of video files "found" on Internet is junk, and littered with errors. If they play fine as is, they might still be unsuitable for conversion/reencoding, as this requires every frame to be OK and decodable.
If they in fact are VCD files, you should be able to just author and burn them to DVD (TDA or DVD-Lab) - you should elaborate on your process from source file to final format. I'm pretty sure Ulead is trying to reencode your source files - failing.

OK
The proscess I'm using is very basic. I was simply using Ulead DVD Movie factory, selecting the file(s) directly and making a DVD from it with no menus or anything and it's as simple as that.
I have never had any trouble before with this method but I always have avi (divx/Xvid) files for sources.
I've been having a bit of a play around with this tonight and have tried using TDA with mixed results.
Of the 2 files I tried 1 seemed to improve but still had some sync issues towards the end and the other one, even though TDA didn't kick up any errors, locked up about 20 mins into playback. I also noticed the VOB file created was about 3 quaters of the size I would have expected it to be.
The stuff I've downloaded to encode is old UFC events that I own on video or were never releasesd on video or DVD and I want to put onto DVD so I can clear out my video shelves to make room for my expanding DVD collection.
Because of the nature of the content it's not too off-puting having the audio out by 1 second as there is not much lip-syncing going on, only the pre-fight interviews etc. But if I'm doing a job I'd like to do it properly.
Any more ideas apreciated.
In the meantime I'll keep at it. -
When you get it figured out let me know cuz I have tried and tried with everything out there but when I autor my captured UFC's (I captured to mpeg) They do the same thing, gradually lose audio sync. I thought it was because of trimming but even untrimmed files do the same. No matter what I author them with.(TMPGEnc DVD, Ulead, DVD santa, etc...) Remux, De-mux, quick-fix with VideoRedo but nothing.I even tried authoring (And everything else)on a different PC but no luck. Play fine on PC but once authored lose sync.
