  1. Is there a tool like Gspot that will read my MPEG2/vob information? I tried using Gspot, but the frame count and length is way off.

Dvd player software like powerdvd can read mpeg files. Just click the "information" button - or details or whatever the terminology is for that program.

EDIT - also you can open it in virtualdubmpeg2 and get more info that way as well.

  3. WinDVD will also give you the details of the file being played.

AVICodec can't even distinguish between MPEG1 vs. MPEG2, video or audio. I have a SVCD fully compliant MPG here on my HD. (It's be MPEG2 video, with 44.1KHz stereo MP2 audio). Here's the info from AVICodec:

    Video : 0.0 B, 0 Kbps, 0.0 fps, 0*0 (), = ffdshow MPEG-4 Video, Supported

Well, I know my ffdshow will play MPEG2, but this ID doesn't tell me jack.

    Audio : 37 MB, 192 Kbps, 44100 Hz, 2 channels, 0x55 = Mpeg-1 audio Layer 3 (MP3), Supported

This audio stream is MP2, NOT MP3. I know because I mixed it back in after resampling it using SSRC and TooLame.

DGIndex will tell you a bit more when you load the file in and play it, but it doesn't say anything about the audio track.
