Hi there!
I got some .ssa Files that seemingly were translatet with a text-editor from the original English .ssa file. Therefore symbols like "á" or "ß" or "ä" or others (French and Portuguese symbols) were typed in directly as they are into the script and not as code (eg ä in html for ä), which is needed for Sub Station Alpha to correctly show this symbols.
I don't speak French or Portuguese, and there are so many symbols that I cannot replace them in SSA manually. Is there a possibility to "repair" those .ssa-files, so that the symbols get replaced by the working code, automatically? Thanks for your help in advance.![]()

I *think* your best bet is get a GOOD text editor and just do search and replace. I don't know of any tools that'll replace hi-ascii characters with HTML entities automatically. They may be out there though.

Have you tried using the EDIT>REPLACE function? Highlight the offending symbol, copy it to the clipboard, then replace it with an "x" or whatever. Then use the spell checker to correct the errors.

manual replacing would take to much time. there are too many symbols (in languages i don't understand) to replace. and there is no html-code needed. this was just an example. the "code" in which SSA is writing the .ssa files uses simply another symbol in the source code of the .ssa file for one of the portuguese/french symbols.

You can use replace (see dialog box below) <edit> or not, because pic ain't showing.
to globally replace your errant characters (albeit, one symbol at a time). There may be 20 or 30 different characters, but you only have to use REPLACE once for each.ICBM target coordinates:

And I'd have to read throug the whole script to see, if I didn't recognize one, because I don't speak those languages. Isn't there a conversation tool to convert utf-8 (or whatever charset the file is written in) to the charset that SSA is using? (which one is it?)
