  1. Greetings[/b]

I own a Sony DVD DAV-DX250. WHen I played dvdrw cd's it shows clearly on my dvd player, however when I play original dvd movies, it does not show clearly. The picture gets dark then comes clear and gets dark again.
Anyone else experienced this problem with their dvd player? If so how can I fix it? I read on region codes, my dvd player says region 1, and I bought those movies in the USA.

    Cheers

  2. That's the Macrovision protection kicking in, which isn't present on your own burned discs. Is it hooked up through a VCR? Of course it is. Don't do that. Hook the DVD player directly up to the television.

Thank you for your response. You are correct, I am using a tv/vcr combo, that is why the macrovision is kicking in.
Is their a way around this?
Could I use my DAV-DX250 with a tv/vcr combo? Any ideas welcome.

    Happy New Year.

It shouldn't be happening on the combo unit unless you are attempting to record while you playing. If the player is connected directly to your TV and you are not attempting to record while playing a DVD, then you have a faulty unit.

Not necessarily true. There are some units that are affected by Macrovision even if you're not trying to record.

Sounds like a defect. What is the point of having a DVD player that cannot play DVD's to your TV because it is implementing Macrovision?
I don't expect an answer, my point is, if it is doing that, there is something wrong that should be fixed.

  7. Well, it sounds like the setup is DVD player (DVD DAV-DX250) to TV/VCR combo. In this case, the video signal with Macrovision passes through the VCR part of the combo unit before getting to the TV part of the combo unit. This is exactly like trying to pass a DVD player signal through a standalone VCR before going to a TV. The Macrovision protected signal will most likely affect the VCR which will output a poor picture to the TV.

I had recently purchased the device shown here...

...in order to hook up a DVD player to an old TV/VCR combo where the VCR was no longer good for playing or recording tapes. I just wanted to use the unit as a monitor. Without this device, I experienced the same dark picture problems that Wisdom described. Once I hooked it up, the picture problems went away.

I think there is an obvious solution that you (original poster) should take to Sony support about your situation. Never ever buy a retail DVD again. You should also ask to return any you have purchased for refund.

If they don't help you, take them to small claims court ( in your town ). Then they will be highly motivated to help you.
