I am converting VHS to DVD with a JVC DR-MV5S combo unit. The movies play on my set-top dvd player but do not play on my computer and the files are not recognized when I insert the dvd in my dvd drive. Any suggestions? Thanks

Install the latest version of Windows Media Player and select the play disc option.

Which DVD Drive? (none specified in your profile)

Which Operating System? (none specified in your profile)

    Is the disc finalized?

Your post does not make it clear whether the disc is not recognised in the PC or the files. Im assuming the disc is recognised but the files are not.

PowerDVD, WinDVD, VLC Media Player, MPC etc...

Lots of software to choose from.

I am using XP SP2. I am inserting the disk into drive "d" and when I try to open drive "d" I get a message that says to "Please insert a disk into drive D". I have both WMP and CyberLink PowerDVD and neither will play the disk. All other disks play and are recognized except those recorded(converted VCR to DVD) by my DVD Recorder. Thanks

I assume that the recorder is automatically finalizing the disk. I am using dvd-r disks not dvd-rw. I tried to go to the recorders set-up menu to see if it is recording in VR mode or Video mode and those modes are not available when a dvd-r disk is inserted. I've read the pwners manual and the only reference I find to finalizing disks is dvd-rw in video mode. Thanks

  10. Is there anything that mentions make compatible? Because what the DVD burner/recorder does is leave the DVD open so you can record more shows movies and what not to it.

Canadateck, You are exactly correct. I found the instructions to finalize on page 78 of the owners manual and now everything is as it should be. Thanks
