Hi guys.
I've got a semi-dumb question here.. At work, a friend of mine puts
his pc in hybernate mode.
And, my question here, is.. does WIN98 have this feature as well ??
I'd like to shut down in hybernate mode (if possibe) and boot up
without loosing my internet connection (dial-up) when I come back.
Thanks for any suggestions or advice.

In the Power Management tab of the Control Panel click the Hibernate tab to use this setting.

No Win98 doesn't have Hibernate, at least not my version. You'll need to upgrade to XP (maybe Win2K, I'm not sure) to use it. I actually turn mine off (on my XP system) as I feel it's next to useless and just wastes HDD space.
Even if you had the ability to Hibernate, I don't see how it would work with dail-up internet connection. The Phone line would remain busy.
* Correction; There is a "Standby" Mode in the Advance Tab in the Power Management for Shutdown Option. I'm not sure if it's the same thing, but you can try it out.I stand up next a mountain and chop it down with the ledge of my hand........ I'm a Voodoo child.... Jimi Hendrix, -
Thanks, I'll look into that.
If I score any good news in this area, I'll post back.
EDIT: I guess I posted too quickly.

The first appearance of hibernate was ME. And buggy......

I recommend that people do not use hibernate, as it is not reliable, and after a few times tends to slow the PC down to a crawl necessitating a reboot anyway. If you want a quick start, use standby instead. It requires less disk space than hibernate, is more reliable, but you should still reboot regularly anyway.

well 98SE surely doesn't have hibernate feature.2000 has it i'm not sure whether ME had it but 2k definitely has it but commently agree with guns1inger that standby is preferable than hibernate

Hibernate is a fantastic feature and I personally have not had any particular issue with it. On "standby", your PC is still using significant amounts of power. It is actually off when hibernating.

On most standard workstations I have used, hibernation has worked as expected so your mileage may vary. You could always just reboot if Windows acts screwy after hibernation. I personally don't really see the point of standby. On most computers, it barely reduces the power usage below "idle" and you still have potential issues with "waking". I prefer just locking the desktop (i.e., Win + L) and turning off the monitor to standby.
