I recently purchased "The Office" from the BBC and I want to make back-ups. When trying to use DVDShrink the compression is set at the maximum 57.8% and the file is still too large. Even if I try to unclick all audio and subpictures the file is too large to fit on a standard 4.7 gb DVD. Any suggestions on what I can do? I would use dvd decryptor if it wasn't episodic, but since it is I can't use it correct? Has anyone else run into this problem with episodic discs? thanks

Do you mean you havent ripped it to your HD?
I used decrypter to rip this (and other episode discs) and never had a prob. I also backed this up using shrink, after ripping with decryper.
(but didnt like the picture quality so re did it with DVD-RB pro)
There was no prob with shrink once I cut unwanted audio.
If it still wont shrink - cut out some of the extras, or reauthor so that you have a disc with 3 eps' on each......I have no idea what im doing, whatsoever. -
What roos50 said. And if you are not particular about quality, you can run the finished Shrink file through Shrink again to reduce the size. If quality is an issue, two DVDs is maybe the best option. Episodic DVDs often stuff a lot more onto a DVD than the average movie DVD.

If you are happy letting Shrink compress a file at 57.8%, then you aren't too concerned about quality, as far as I am concerned. I would be splitting up the disk, or using DVD Rebuilder.

DVD Shrink is giving you the overall qualtiy of the video if it's to be eventually backed up on a DVD-5. If you're content with that then fine, othewise, use DVD-RB or just split the eps across a couple discs. Reauthoring them with DVDshrink (2 per disc) will be much faster than transcoding with DVD-RB.

cheers thanks. I'll play around with your suggestions and see what I come up with.
