Not sure when this exactly disapeared but that advanced tab that shows your dma mode is gone. Tried removing the secondary ide controller and letting windows reinstall it but no help. I did upgrade my firmware for the DVD burner around that time, not sure if its related.

Any suggestion would be great , thnx

I could be related to the upgrade, but unlikely. It can happen with adding some software. Have you installed the Intel Application Accelerator? It blanks out the advanced tab.

You can check your DMA status other ways. You can check with NeroInfo Tool. http://ww2.nero.com/nero6/enu/Info_Tool.html

    Look in configuration.

If it shows PIO, then the standard fix is to uninstall the IDE channel the drive is on. Windows will replace it on a reboot and that often resets the drives. NeroTool won't show you the DMA level, though, just that it is enabled.

BTW, this isn't DVD to DVDR. Moving you to Computers.

Also around the same time I lost my advanced tabs my HDD changed from being Udma mode5 to Udma2, same as my secondary ide only will show udma mode2. It also shows the same in the Bios and i cant change it to 5. I have heard mode 5 is common for HDD and CD devices.

AFAIK, the Intel Application Accelerator blanks out the advanced tab. It should set the drive to the maximum speed automatically. It is specifically for Intel chipset motherboards. It apparently replaces the OS drivers. If you have a Intel chipset on your MB, go ahead and use it. If not, don't.

Second question: Hard drives should be DMA 4 or 5 or even 6. DMA 2 is what many DVD ROMs are. DVD writers should be 2-4, 4 is preferred. 4 needs a 80 conductor cable.

I would uninstall the channel that the HD is on and let the OS reinstall and see if that corrects the problem. No modern HD should be DMA 2.

Depends on the MB. You may be able to 'reaquire' the drive in BIOS. Check the MB manual for doing this. It also has some manual settings there, but those can get complicated.

I would also check your cables and make sure you have 80 conductor IDE cables. One last thing to try if it's not a boot drive: Shut down the computer and unplug it. Unplug the IDE connector from the drive. Boot the computer then shut off and unplug. Plug the drive back in and boot again. This should let the BIOS reacquirereacquire the drive again and hopefully reset it to DMA 5.

If none of this works, you can reset your BIOS to default. You will lose any BIOS settings, so you might want to note them first. Unplug the computer and remove the BIOS battery for a few minutes and reinstall. Adjust your BIOS settings to what you want after booting.
