Was gonna buy a 5131 because of the 3 disc carousel but instead I bought the 1500 because there were a lot of negative votes on the circuitcity.com board about it. And they rate the picture/video quality lower for the 5131 than the 1500. Does the 5131 play MPEG's well? THe 1500 only plays the video, no sound and the video is all Pixellated. Please post your suggestions...

My 5131 plays VCD/SVCD very well. And because compliant disc's can only hold so much data, the ability to load 3 disc's is a real bonus. I'm lazy. ; )

I've got both. I just grabbed a 1500 for the bedroom, cause it was dirt cheap, $59 open box buy. It's going through an RF convertor to a 20" tv whereas the 5131 goes to a 27" via Svideo.
5131 has played just about everything I've tossed at it. For the most part, the 1500 has as well. The only difference Ive seen is the lack of jpeg support on the 1500.
I think most of the people slamming these players aren't taking into account the fact that they're buying a sub $100 player. I don't expect the picture quality to be on par with a $250 player. I bought them because they play damn near everything.
My wife insisted that we keep our original Proscan player hooked up because it had slightly better quality than the 5131. I've yet to see her use it.
I think the decision between the 2 boils down to money, and if you need the 3 disc changer. -
My Brother and I have got the Apex 5131... We both are having problems with them. Audio is out of sync with all vcds and svcds get pixely half way through it. I have tested the same vcd's and svcd's on the ad 660, 600, 500, and 1000.. they all play the exact vcds and svcds perfect. I can't believe we got 2 bad players. But it seems to look that way. Both were bought at the same time from the same Circuit City, So possibly a bad batch.. WEll if anyone has had this problem, please post.. I think I am upgrading when I take them back.. dunno which to get though.. Pioneer looks to be best price and quality wise..

Well I think I made my mind up.. the Pioneer DV440 is only $179 @ Best Buy.. That is $120 off what it use to be.. Talk about competition. That machine is awsome too. Only downfall is Single disc.

Does anyone know what the maximum bitrate for MP3's that the AD1500 can handle? On the DVD player compatibility list it says 128, but I just want to double check. Because most of my MP3's are 192. If the maximum bitrate was 128 that would stop me from buying the machine. And also is anyone having problems with SVCD's lossing audio sync when you FF/RW?
