Hi folk,
Just bought a Kodak EasyShare C330 camera today. Have shot two videos on the camera with a 1 Gig Memory card.
Installed the software into my computer, with the camera hooked up to the USB 2.0 port. Tried installing the software twice, after de-installing it. Just tried installing the drivers.![]()
i've lost count of the times I've had to reboot my puter)
When I right click on the Kodak Logo, I get a menu that says "Open - Transfer Now - Preferences - Help". When I try to transfer video, the window pops up and says, "Select the device for transferring". It has one drive letter in the window: "F:", which is my CD Burner for some odd reason.
I switch the camera on and off through all the mucking around, but it just won't show up. I've been at this thing for eight hours and it's really starting to annoy the hell out of me. The camera won't show up in any window. I thought it should appear under "my computer", but nothing there either.
Any help much appreciated.
Mark

Been through instruction manual, which seems to be picture-based with no real instructions.

If it is any consolation, I never install camera software or transfer directly from the camera. I take out the memory card and transfer directly via a USB card reader. Most software written for cameras is cheap, half-assed garbage that rarely works well, if at all, and isn't worth the space it takes up on your hard drive. Get a USB card reader and be done with it.

Did you by any chance plug the cam into the USB port and turn it on before installing the drivers from the disc?
If so it's possible Windows installed the wrong ones and isn't utilizing the correct ones. -
Evening everyone.
Since you didn't come back here to tell us weather or not you have
met up with success, I'll assume that you are still no able to get
your pc and dig camera to communicate..
Well, I recently picked up the Kodak C330 also. And I have it working
pretty well under WIN98 with no troubles.
But, when I first did the installation, I do recall having a slight
problem with the drivers connecting to the dig camera.
When I first installed the drivers (and software) together, I made sure
that the dig camera was NOT connected to the pc in any way. I only
installed the drivers.
Then, I shut down the pc. (this is usually the best thing to do, so
that any DOS - related house-cleaning can be done at boot up.
You'll see this when you re-boot. Anyways.
Then, I started up WINDOWS and proceeded to allow the last bit of remaining
house-cleaning that the driver installation left behind.
Then, I shut down, and rebooted.. one last time.
Ok. By now, I'm pretty sure that there are no more left over items
to clean up during boot up. So.. I proceed to boot up in WINDOWS.
As everything seems to be running smoothly again, I begin to plug my
USB-2 cord (or wire, whatever you call it) to the camera. And as I
do this, I look to the screen for any signs of device mgr activity.
Yes.., there is. I see how the device mgr is poping up a window that
tells me that it is now installing any associated drivers that are
to work with the USB-2 I/O and WINDOWS.
(this usually happens in a first-time USB/FIREWIRE device connection,
and usually doesn't happen ever again - unless you uninstall the associated
WINDOWS drivers or re-install WINDOWS from scratch again)
This is the last and final step.
Some last minute suggestions ...
** you might try and remove from device mgr, your Universal Serial bus drv'r
and remove the Kodak C330 driver/software.
This above step will give you a new head start on this. And, going in the
same direction I just lead to in above steps might help you get there.
Anyways..
Once you get there, you'll appreciate the speed that this camera pushes
out the pics in. Its quite fast.
To get your pic (or clip) from the dig camera, all you do is first
connect the USB-2 cord to the camera..
(never connect it while you are taking pictures. Connect ONLY when you
are ready to UPLOAD the pics to your pc. Then, when you are finished,
I recommend that you be sure you disconnect the cord)
..then, turn the dial to your right once (will be the last stop)
with the camera square [o] and watch your pc screen at far bottom right,
as it pops up a dialog w/ progress bar. This is where everything begins,
and the 2nd half of the software (by Kodak) lauches.
- TIP - #1
The sofware is clumsy, but simple none-the-less. I use the crop feature
for when I need to cut out a section of of pic. And, as I do this, I
(keeping the same pic's filname/number) I add a 'b' to the end. It
really makes things that simple to find, and keeping all in the same
order.
- TIP - #2
Get yourself a set of rechargable batteries. Go for the one that can
charge within 15 minutes (or even hour chargers) At the moment, I am
stuck with a 13 hour chager. It'll do for now
Well, that's about it for me here.. good luck with your camera.

Someone I know also received a C330 for Xmas. He did not install any software or drivers but did as gunslinger suggested and took the memory card out and used a card reader, then drag and drop the files to the computer. I watched one of the movies he captured. It is Quicktime if I recall correctly. Nice little camera available from CompUSA for $149 with a free Epson R220 and 128M SD card and built-in 16 M is good for about 130 pics at best resolution of 4 megapixel. There was a $20 instant rebate on the memory card and $100 of rebates for the R220.

At first glance, I took guns1inger's suggestion about a card reader
for granted, overlooking the benefits..
But then, now that you remineded me (trhouse) I just saw some
benefits with this setup.
1, eliminates all camera -to- wire ware 'n tare.
2, (if I understand correctly) the software for the given card reader
will do the tranfser, privided you set your dig camera up for ext
memory card only writes. I think the Kodac C330 camera has this
feature setting.
3, comfort
I have a card reader I bought at CompUSA for $19 bucks. I think
its USB-2 and it definately comes with WIN98 drivers.
If this is the case, I'll be taking a new approach to this.
Thanks for the tips guys

Hi all,
Thanks for your input,
At first, that's what I thought. I may have connected the camera, windows installing the wrong drivers at first, hence I took the kodak drivers off, and I also look through my window hardware config to see if I could find any Kodak related stuff. I couldn't find anything there, so I eliminated that possibility, and reinstalled the kodak software.
Getting a USB memory card reader is a good option. One I would have tried if all else failed.
I found many peculiarities with the setup and couldn't understand what the hell the problem was As I’d been at it for two "eight hour" days trying to work it out.
I finally took it back to the store, as the guys tried it out on their computers, and all that, yes all that because there was a faulty USB Cable in the packet.
I've bought it back home now, and happily transfering my new years party video to my computer.
Thanks everyone again for the much appreciated help.
