  1. Forgive my ignorance as I'm used to using a dozen programs to do such jobs, however I am looking for something absolutely simple for my computer challenged friend that wants the same job done but with a far smaller step process. What would be the best software in your opinion that would be able to capture a DV video via firewire from a DV camcorder, convert it and create a DVD. It does't have to burn it but as long as it's already in Mpeg2 format I think my friend shouldn't have any problems since a tool like Tmpgenc DVD Author would do the rest.

    Thanks for the help.

I installed the 30 day free trial of Ulead DVD Moviefactory for my wife to use. She managed to transfer the footage over Firewire from her Canon MiniDV camcorder, trim the ends off clips, create a menu and burn it to a DVDR. All on her own with no help from me or our daughter.

That has got to be the best advert for the software possible as normally she only ever uses Word (and treats that as an electronic typewriter!). It's cheap to buy too.

I'll also recommend ulead dvd moviefactory. It is a well integrated, all-in-one DV camcorder to TV watchable DVD disk application that is easy to use. I use it for authoring and occasionally for burning. I plan on using its capture capability when I finally get a DV camcorder. Its MPEG encoder is adequate but definately not top rate.

If they are that challenged or pressed for time, buy a DVD Recoder with firewire input instead.

    VSO DivXToDVD will do it.
