  1. Let me clear up the matter of too many codec's. Just like you when I was starting to learn how to convert Video's (along time ago) I thought that I had to load every dam codec to get the best results. Thru trial and error I too learned that too much can be hazardous to your computer and the the files you are trying to convert. I also learned that everyone has an opinion on what is the best software to use which can take up a lot of your time converting a movie or just a few minutes. Most of what you learn is thru trial and error and perhaps you will find a better way to do things and pass the info along to others. All of us are constantly learning new and better ways to do what we do and its thru this trial and error that others also learn.

Many here will disagree with what I have said and some will even say that their way is better and perhaps it is...but, just remember...what works for some doesnt always work for others. You can see that it is true by the many posts here concerning this program. It doesnt mean that the program is bad and I will be the first to tell you that its not. Everyone (including myself) would love to find a program that you can tell it what to do and it does it all without any input from you...as far as I know it hasnt been developed yet...svcd2dvd is close to doing everything with out having to learn a bunch of complicated commands.

For those of you who are having problems getting your converted movies to play on your standalone player you may want to consider buying an Astar Divx Player or a Phillips DP642 which allows you to play AVI,Mpeg or wma files without converting.

Both can be purchased from here:
    Code:
    http://www.newegg.com

It was thru trial and error that I came up with what I consider to be the best and easiest way to convert a movie and what software to use and not to use. Here is what you need to do:

    1. remove all the codecs by uninstalling the codec pack.

    2. Install only this software for a codec: HDX4 which is a codec and is nolonger available as a standalone.

    3. WinXp comes with an ASPI which is unstable so you will need to use ForceASPI which will uninstall the version you now have and allow you to install the version that is the most stable.

    4. After you install your codec you will want to run: Codec Sniper as it will tell you if all the codec's on your system are installed and not broken. If they are broken you can delete them by highlighting and hitting delete.

    Link to above mentioned files:
    CODE
    Code:
    http://www.uploading.com/?get=AB8Q9PN5

The software I use to convert movies are (not neccessarily in this order):

Both will convert all formats (although I have found winavi the fastest)

    Divx2DVD =
    CODE
    Code:
    http://www.vso-software.fr/download_product_direct.php?product=divxtodvd
    WinAVI=
    CODE
    Code:
    http://www.winavi.com/WinAVI_Video_Converter.exe

When I want more than one movie per DVD with a menu I use a program (no one has cracked yet) which costs 20.00 and is well worth the money. Its called:
    SVCD2DVD2=
    CODE
    Code:
    http://software.badgerit.com/SVCD2DVDV2.0.html
You will need .net framework 1.1 for the program to work.
    Code:

  2. A very strange post. Cool that you actually mentioned SVCD2DVD in it, seeing as how your are posting this in the S2D forum. Not sure the purpose of what you are saying, it doesn't appear that you have "cleared up" anything.
Your advice to *only* install the HDX4 codec is dead wrong, if you plan on using SVCD2DVD (or any other conversion program) to convert avis to DVD format. The *vast* majority of .avis are either DviX or Xvid. Needing an aspi layer for converting video is wrong ( it *is* required for burning/ripping with a rom drive) Your link to the programs you list doesn't work (opens to a start page of some hosting site. At least you got the SVCD2DVD link right.

As ChrissyBoy would say "What are you going on about"?

  3. CBC:

Before you jump on me concerning my post perhaps you should re-read what it says. You do need a codec in order to convert and it doesnt matter what program you are using. The codec I mentioned does do xvid and divx avi and mpeg and it works very well. Why load 500 differrent codecs if one will do it all. Note that the link I posted does work as I and several hundred other ppl have downloaded what I put there.

Yes the ASPI is needed for Burning...and if it is the wrong one it will give you errors on your finished products. I wasnt asking for you to agree with what I was posting as it was only to pass on what I had learned. Believe it or not there is no one not even you (even though you probably wont admit it) that knows everything.

I posted it in this part of the forum...because I am a registered owner of SVCD2DVD.

So, if you dont have anything nice to say other than to tell ppl that your the only one that is right...then I suggest that you dont waste your time posting at all...as there are ppl who do appreciate when some one gives them advise...good or bad..as its better than some smarta** who thinks that he knows it all and wants to impress everyone with what little they know.

I think that Crissyboy can speak for himself and doesnt need you to do it for him.

SVCD2DVD is a good program...but it doesnt do everything perfectly and if one was to depend only on that program then one is lacking in both experience and knowledge.

Most of the problems I have read in the many posts here are that ppl are having problems encoding and alot of those problems are not due to the program but to having too many codecs installed and not working correctly or what is refered to as broken or not completely installed.

Since you are having a hard time downloading from the link I supplied I will put the file on one of my servers for download...but, you may have a problem there as well since you have to know how to ftp.

Just copy the link in your web browser and it will download the file or you can FTP in to get the file.

  4. So sorry, I thought that everyone was able to post opinions on this forum.
You seem a bit touchy. You claimed that you were "clearing things up", & I simply posted that I disagreed with your accessment, nothing more. If you wish to read more into what I said, that is your right.
    Cheers & HNY

Appropriate advice from you considering that you posted this during your last visit here:

Particularly this part aimed at Chris:
