  1. Well i've searched and searched but cannot find any answers to my problem. I have been using Mpeg-vcr to cut commercials form my captured mpegs but the audio gets progressively worse after each cut. I have tried using other programs to cut with but have not found any that lets you cut inside the range of the mpeg like Mpeg-vcr. Most only let you trim begining and end. I am capturing to mpeg 720x480 DVD in Winfast PVR with a Winfast card. Is there any program that cuts as easy as Mpeg-vcr but works? If not should I capture to a different format (AVI) to make editing easier? I've tried using a lot of programs for editing but still get audio sync problems and i'm tired of it! Is there any "fool-proof" method of capture-edit-author to dvd?
Oh and one other thing. I have read the sticky on audio sync problems but no help.
Running XP Pro with AMD 3200XP, 1gb ram, Leadtek Winfast capture card, 2 drives, dedicated soley for video.
    Thanks

    cuttermaran ?

Basically, mpeg bites for editing. It wasn't designed for editing, which is why most editors do it so poorly. Mpeg-VCR is one of the better ones, and enjoys a pretty good reputation around here for doing just what you are trying to do. Cuttermaran also has it's fans, so might be worth a try.

I use VideoReDo to edit my mpeg captures from my PVR250 card. You might try it.

I too use mpeg-vcr to cut commercials from my Hauppage PVR250 captures, and haven't had one single sync issue - so I'd rather think there's something with the captured mpegs that makes 'em unfit for cutting.
Only thing to do is try different apps IMO.

  5. Thanks, I have tried Cutterman and video redo but couldn't quite figure them out as easy as Mpeg-vcr. I'll give them another shot. I'll also start saving as AVI if that will make it easier.

Working with mpg2 isn't as bad as all that, although as posted, it's never been designed for editing. OTOH, I think the folks at womble have gotten rite, so maybe the prob is in the software we've got to work with. In theory there really shouldn't be any limitations because we're still dealing with a picture generated from data stored in a file.

"Is there any program that cuts as easy as Mpeg-vcr but works?"
Check out womble software. Project X works well if you can live with cuts to the nearest i frame, or perhaps capture all i frame.

"Is there any "fool-proof" method of capture-edit-author to dvd?"
If you can live with the re-encoding, capture max bitrate mpg2, then go the DGIndex route with VFAPI or Anysynth acting as proxies or to render avi as a mid-step. Then re-encode to mpg2, which in my humble opinion gives better quality then capturing to DVD specs.
