  1. I just bought LG DS-9533 DVD player and it plays everything I threw at it so far without much problem. The picture quality of the movies (DivX, Xvid) is good but not as great as when played on the computer. The color is not as rich and picture quality is less glossy.

I connect to my 21" TV via video out (My TV does not support S-video or component input). On the comp., I use DivX 5.11 or WMP 9 to play the movies. I have a 17" LG Flatron Monitor and a 64 MB AGP card (MSI GeForce 440MX).

I would like to know if the above is true for all standalone DivX player? Also, will I get better picture quality for a DivX/vid movie when connected via component out?

Another thing, when I tested the DVD player on a 29" LG XCanvas in the showroom, the picture quality was terrible. The colors were dull and there was pixalation even for a DVD movie. I only bought it cause the picture quality was the same on a Hyundai DVD player.

Can one get the same picture quality on a 29" TV as on a 21" TV (Plasma and LCD screens excluded) especially when viewed from the same distance?

    Thx

Divx playback is chipset dependent, some players are better than others. A PC will always have a better quality picture because your pc can use the exact codec used in encoding and because a computer monitor has a higher resolution than a tv.

Not all TV's have the same picture quality. Plus, a smaller TV viewed at the same distance as a larger model will appear to have a better picture because the pixel size is smaller. With that said, 2 similar quality sets viewing a good source, DVD for example, should both have a crisp sharp picture.

  3. Well, in that case, for a DVD player, my LG DS-9533 gives good picture quality. Thx.
