Using virtualdub or a mod version, try cutting the end of the first file and the start of the second file each on a key frame before joining them. See if that helps.

I don't know if anyone has solved this problem reliably and repeatably.

I would use a decent editor, like vegas, where you can re-align the audio before creating the final avi. The problem is you would have to re-encode the entire file, risking quality loss.

What output are you after - avi or DVD ?

  5. Make sure all your xvid files have the same audio format.

Avoid mixing CBR and VBR mp3 and different bitrates.

Did you try to set the audio to full processing to save your video files with an uncompressed wav file. If it works, you can then redo the job with an mp3 compression.

Use AVIDemux. Load the original, then use File / Append to load the second file.

    If all else fails:

I participated in a thread about 1 1/2 years ago discussing adding a title to a video. Part of the discussion covered joining xvid files. There is a version of vdubmod which allowed us to do it. There was also a link to a Doom9 discussion which suggested using an older xvid codec (version from 16.07.2003). The link is on the doom9 page below.

If you have time to read here is the thread on VH but remember it starts out discussing adding titles.

    https://forum.videohelp.com/viewtopic.php?t=237279&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0

Here is a link to V irtualdub v1.4.11. I tested it and it's still active

    http://latin.icis.pcz.pl/~martin/vdm.rar

You don't have to replace any other version of vdub or vdubmod they can all coexist.

Finally here is the link to the doom9 thread:

    http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=2d79ab53b4d9b18c1789031df0256711&threadid=82021

btw) It's possible that the later versions of virtualdubmod have solved the problem but at that time last year only v1.4.11 would let us join xvid.

Here's a free friendly bump of your thread

I suspect this thread will die unless you give better answers than that.

Did they not join at all or is it still a synch issue? Which specific suggestions have you tried?

Try a simple search on this forum using the words "xvid join" in the search box at the top of the page and some really usefull information will pop up right away.

    For example:

XVID's are well known to be more troublesome to join. The xvid's need to have at least some minimum specs in common or it will never work.

Another piece of info is that if your files have the same specs but still won't join then try ffdshow if your not already using it .

If that won't work then try to install another version of the xvid codec. Try the latest one in case yours is out of date.

After all that if your intention is to burn a dvd then convert both files to mpeg first and then join them.

If nothing else works and you are desperate to keep them as avi then convert them to another format like divx making sure the audio specs, framesize (resolution) and framerate are the same in both.

You will need to be a lot more specific about what you have tried when a number of suggestions have been offered to you. Are you getting any error messages about VBR audio or anything like that? Which version of virtualdubmod have you tried?
Also state exactly what the results are of your efforts it's impossible for anyone else to know what you see unless you say it.

    Hope this helps.

I just did one of these using a combination of avisynth and virtualdubmod. I used virtualdubmod to join the two clips together so I could demux the 5.1AC3 audio track as a single track.

I then used avisynth to open the two avi files as directshowsource to elimiate the b-frame decoder lag which I suspect is the cause of sync problems a lot of the time. Frameserved to CCE to encode, authored the AC3 audio back with DVD Lab Pro. No sync problems, seamless join. Very happy camper.
