I did a scan of my system for duplicate *.dll files, and was surprised to find the file ‘msvcrt.dll’ (Microsoft C Runtime Library_Visual C++) in ten places with seven different versions. The ‘C:\Windows\System’ folder has the latest version of the file, but I’m wondering if this situation is causing conflicts/slowdowns when I run the affected programs, or does each program run happily with it’s own version?

I got a program that was supposed to seek out and delete duplicate/redundant .dll files and help to clean up the hard drive and make the PC run more efficiently.

but it had a shitload of disclaimers and warnings that basically said 'if you run this program, it will probably screw up your PC and you'll be screwed. you can't hold us liable because we just warned you. thanks for your money, sucker.'....
since I really don't know that much about .dll files and whether you really need 20 of the same .dll in so many different places on your drive, i never ran the app.

it's probably safer to leave the dupes

jollyjohn, thanks for the suggestion, but that DLLArchive program only finds unused DLL's. That's not my problem... I have several different versions of the same "used" DLL that resides within some of my programs, there's one in my WINDOWS\SYSTEM folder, and one in my CABS\drivers folder. I'm just wondering if this situation could be unknowingly slowing down my PC and, if so, how to fix.
