Dear all...
I captured my video from winXP movie maker as .avi file. And I am trying to make DVD off it.
By using TMPGEnc I converted the file to .m2v file, as recommened by this site.
However, when I try to burn it, the softwares (Nero, and some thers) I tried doesn't recognize the file format (error message: not compatiblae format). Compatible format are something like .bup, .vob
What did I do wrong? What's the correct file format for DVD? What software I shoould use to convert these format?
Thanks in advance.

It needs to be mpg for most authoring programs to accept it.
M2V is just VIDEO no audio.
One option is to use virtualdub and save the audio as a wav file from the original avi. Then you can use that as your audio for the m2v (mux the two in tmpgenc - file-mpeg tools - multiplex).Donatello - The Shredder? Michelangelo - Maybe all that hardware is for making coleslaw? -
usually when you use TMPGEnc it should give you a video file in .m2v and an audio file in .mp2. I would recommend first to encode your avi into MPEG 2 then demultiplex using TMPGEnc. Then what you would have to do is author the dvd using authoring programs like DVD-Lab pro. There is a feature in there that states compile dvd. This would create the respective files in the folders video_ts and audio_ts. Then you can use your nero or what ever burning software you use. You probably noticed that when burning there was an audio_ts and video_ts folder. Just copy those files into nero, hit burn and you got yourself a dvd. Hope this helps

Judging by your comment above (in bold), I'd guess that you've chosen to "Burn DVD Video Files" using Nero. When doing this, it expects you to already have VOBs, IFOs and BUPs ready to put into the "VIDEO_TS" folder.
I don't use Nero to encode, so I can't advise which option you should be using. SSJ4Thiran is also thinking along these lines. There is some corner of a foreign field that is forever England: Telstra Stadium, Sydney, 22/11/2003.
