    I just need to simply convert Mpeg2 to avi for editing Vdub gives me an error when trying it. Any Suggestions would be greatly apreciated.

    okay i'm not very expierenced when it comes to vdub what format should I use? I'm converting a 7gb mpeg2 file when trying to convert it to avi as you imagine it is huge. i eventually want to burn the files to dvd i'm trying to compress them so that each movie will fit on a standart 4.7gb dvd and yes theyre 2hr video. Any help is greatly apreciated

  3. If you are doing just simple Cuts/Editing try Cuttermaran or VideoRedo as they are made for Editing Mpeg Video.

    If you want to edit in virtualdub, then just open the MPEG-2 file in virtualdubmpeg2 or virtualdubmod, do your edits, then frameserve to your favorite MPEG encoder. Or alternatively make reference to the MPG file in an avisynth script if that is your preferred frameserving method. The point is that you don't need to convert it to AVI at all to do what you want to do with it.
