I not sure where to put this as this is a really wierd problem and this is my 2nd post here... so here goes

My little 1min41sec 720X480 mpeg-2 (progressive) clip captured from DirecTV (non-hd obviously) with my ATI Tv Wonder USB 2.0 at 30fps goes like this:

frame 1 = field shift error (every other scanline out of place, I think from field 2)
frame 2 = field shift error
    frame 3 = fine
    frame 4 = fine
    frame 5 = fine
frame 6 = field shift error
frame 7 = field shift error
    frame 8 = fine
    frame 9 = fine
    and so on....

So 2 frames bad then 2 frames good repeat ad infinitum for the whole clip.

I was a COMPLETE novice to the world of digital video (beyond finding codecs for troublesome clips) just 4 daze ago, so be gentle please, and thank you for your attention and time

  2. That is normal telecined video. Nearly all movies broadcast on NTSC SDTV show that pattern. You don't see the interlace artifacts on TV because you only see one field at a time on the screen. Computers capture pairs of fields and weave them together into frames.

If you plan on burning to DVD just leave it as is and it will display properly on TV.

If you want you can restore the original 23.976 fps film frames via an inverse telecine. IVTC can be tricky though.
