  1. Everytime I try to add my .avi file into TMPGEnc to convert to mpg, I get this error:

"File "file.avi" cannot open, or unsupported"

I looked in the common problems thread... I tried changing the priority of the VFAPI plug-in, and that didn't work.
I also made sure I have the required codecs.

I've converted 100s of times before, and have never encountered this problem. I can't figure out what else to try!

So any help would be much appreciated!!

EDIT: I tried using TMPGEnc XPress, and it said "could not open the video part of file.avi, only the audio part can be opened" if that helps at all. The video plays perfectly fine in like windows media player or something though. =\

  2. Use Gspot to figure out what codec is used in the AVI file (Four CC code)
When I was born I was so shocked that I could'nt speak for 18 months.

Yes, you're probably missing the video codec used, or have an old version installed.

Hi, I have much the same issue as the above...
I keep getting a response from Tmpgenc Xpress (3.0.4.24) on (only some) avi's stating that "Video part can not be opened, audio part only can be opened"
Now, I have run the files thru Gspot, all are Xvid files. I have reinstalled the latest Xvid drivers (v1.10 final), whilst also having 3ivx and Divx 6 pro on my system.
Any help would be appreciated as I am getting rather frustrated here. If there is a tut or guide somewhere that explains how to fix the above, I'd be most thankful to get my hands on it...

    Cheers

@Flamingmadman:Don't go grave robbing (waking up old threads) - start a new thread - it's really easy!
To address your q: In those circumstances, I'd try loading the AVI in VirtualDub, and frameserve to TMPGEnc.
