  1. I am dropping 60% plus frames during capture from my 8mm videocam using Virtual Dub.
I run a WinTVGo card on a 733 MHz CPU 128MB RAM to a dedicated slave 40GB hard drive all under WinXP.
One change I made that seemed to coincide with the problem was that I changed my primary 30GB drive from FAT32 to NTFS in order to beat the 4GB file size.
I have tried all the usual suspects-defrag, clean player heads.
Note that the frames drop even when there is no input signal, ie capturing "blue screen"
    Any help would be appreciated.

check UDMA mode for that hard drive first whether it is set.

and you didn't say what resolution you capture at and what codec you use...

  4. Make sure that your hard drive is not set to compress data on the fly. It is an option when formatting to NTFS. To check right-click on the hard drive in "My Computer" and go to properties. Towards the bottom of the window will be an option to compress the hard drive. Make sure this is unchecked.

  5. Did you try the AuxSetUp that comes with VirtualDub? What KB/s does your Hard drive show?
What is your CPU usage on VirtualDub? Try capturing uncompressed if CPU load is high.
Since you mention that this problem exists at any resolution, It could be a problem with your Capture card drivers. Check if you can get a latest version.
I may not be able to help you more than this.

  6. I was dropping many frames (at any resolution) with my WinTV card due to audio/video synchronization. Try to capture without sound and see if the problem persists.

  7. Do you have a mobo with a via chipset (ie: a7v133) if you do you should try the newest 4 in one drivers. I have problems with frames being droped then remembered that i still had yet to install them, as soon as i did, the loss of frames when away...
