    Hi All,

I have recorded a DVD some time ago. I have stored it in an envelope, those for CD's and DVD's.

At that time, it used to work. However, I have just tested it in my DVD Player, and it didn't work! I put it in computer, and it worked fine though. I tested the media using DVD Info Pro, and it is error free!

    What may have happened?

    Thanks in advance!
    Best regards,
    Joelson.

I couldnt say for sure what actually happened, though if I recall correctly - sometimes your standalone DVD player 'doesnt like' the media inserted.
I think it has something to do with the dye used when the DVD was actually pressed.

I would suggest what I had been told in the past - to take the dvd to a friends place, try it out there, if it works, then you know the problem isnt so much with your DVD, as it is with your dvd player... hell, sometimes they get rundown too...

If it doesnt work there either... no harm done. since it still reads in your own drive on the computer, back it up to hard drive, re-write.

anyone else have any thoughts? ideas? and by all means, if I've been incorrect in anything I have said (which admittedly isnt much) do correct me. we all stand on the shoulders of others, right?

DVD_NDN: thank you for your help. I have already done it all. First I tried in two different brand standalone dvd players, and it didn't work in any of them.

I also could back it up. I just want to know what may have caused the problem.
    Best regards,
    Joelson.

Sorry, Takeshi, but I didn't understand your question.
The media manufacturer is RIDATA (RITEK).
    I recorded the media.
    Best regards,
    Joelson.

  6. if it still works on computer, copy and burn it to another dvd a good brand . Old burns and dvd's considering many factors did not play on every dvd player.

I know that, but what I didn't understand is why it stopped working, even though it doesn't show up any phisycal errors.
    Best regards,
    Joelson.

  8. I see 3 possible reasons:

    1. Too high humidity in Brazil, see also:

    2. Specific RITEKG05 problem (are yours white inkjet printable disks?), see:
    http://club.cdfreaks.com/showthread.php?p=1198163#post1198163

    3. Envelope may scratch DVD-Rs, use DVD jewel cases instead.

you should run a "Disc Quality" and "ScanDisc" test with Nero CD-DVD Speed and post it here.

Probably its your stand-alone DVD player. Sometimes it needs to be re-inserted couple times until it "catch up".

I have similar problem with my CyberHome

Player is playing beautifully, but taking long time for "Loading..." and sometimes even displaying "Bad Disc" message

The real issue here is that the reader being tried is either dying or simply does not want to see the disc.

FYI, joeg, the guy in that "high humidity" thread on cdfreaks is full of crap. Don't put much stock in his fairy tales of magically dying media, caused by Santa Claus snowflakes. Just another jackass trying to start a hoax or false rumormill. He's using cdfreaks simply to give his hardware-zone thread more publicity. Really no different than a person that starts a chain letter or writes a computer virus.

I think it is unlikely that 2 different arbitrary selected DVD players die at the same time:

It could be helpful to get more details.
    - Storage conditions: temperature, relative humidity, exposure to direct sunlight?
    - Duration of storage after recording
    - DVD type (DVD-R, DVD-RW?, rated speed)
    - Manufacturer ID of DVD (Nero CD-DVD-speed: disk info)
    - Top side of DVD: Is it white inkjet printable?
    - Firmware version of burner (Start / programs / accessory / system programs / system information / components / CD)?
    - Was the same player used for tests before and after storage?
    - Was the temperature at both tests similar?
    - Was the player also tested with other DVD-R(W)s?
    - If you burn another Ritek disk now, does it work in that player?

It's highly likely, actually. Or that one player was dying, and the other simply does not like the media. There are many factors, but for only 2 players to be the test group, odds still favor something other than the media.
