we have a Goodmans GHDD177DVDR which we are quite pleased with.
However on some occasions the sound on things we've recorded on the hard drive goes all muffled and it is very annoying and hard to watch, we leave it until the next day and the sound is fine again.
Also if watching t.v through the dvd it can do the same thing.
I tried fragmenting the hard drive which erased everything on the hard drive oops !! I've tried the scan disk with no sucess
It is driving us mad, any ideas as to what could be causing it

It doesn't sound like a problem with the hard drive, more likely something in the audio section of the player. Possibly a part overheating and partly failing.

When it does it, you might try taking the case cover off and blowing air in there to cool it. If that fixes it, then think about installing a small fan in the case or improving the cooling some other way. Unfortunately a intermittent problem like that is hard to find and cure.

    thanks for the reply
The machine is still under guarantee , would it be worth taking it back or do you think we would have the same problem
hubby is convinced it is something to do with pausing what we are watching on the hard driveand then unpausing it what do you reckon

DVD players and hard drives aren't like VHS tape machines that can wear the tape or the machine when pausing. A hard drive 'pauses' often all the time it's running. The read laser on a DVD player doesn't touch the surface of the DVD, so there is no wear from that, either, during pausing.

To know if the audio problem is common with that model player, you would have to talk to someone that has the same model. But it sounds like a defect to me.

just sat down to watch a pre-recorded dvd and the sound played up , I am so fed up with it. I saved hard to buy it and wish I hadn't bothered.
Please tell me we won't have the same problem with a different model.
