burning using nero of 1 gigaabyte video file into 2 vcds. How to cut file to fit into 2 vcds.

Are you creating VCDs, or do you simply want to split an avi onto 2 CDs ?
VCD requires reencoding to VCD standards using mpeg-1 video. You can fit approx 78 - 80 minutes of VCD video to a 700 MB CD. Look up VCDEasy in the tools section and read any associated guides.
If you just want to split an AVI into two equal (or unequal) parts for writing to 2 CDs then use virtualdub in Direct Stream mode, set markers for the first half and save, repeat for the second half. Direct Stream Copy will not reencode the video.Read my blog here.
