  1. 1. I have an HP cd-writer 9500 series installed
    2. DVD ROM which came installed in my computer(E-machine Monster 500)
    3. CDR 80 minutes
    4. My DVD player is Toshiba 1200(will they play in it?)

I know I need a software program in order to burn the DVD.
What I want to know is, will what I have work before I buy the software for burning DVD's?I do'nt want to buy the software to find out nothing else will work.
Any help would be deeply appreciated.
What DVD burner/ripper would be a good purchase?

first, you have a cd burner not a dvd burner, so you can't burn dvd's, you can make vcd's, xvcd's or svcd's to back up your dvd's, just follow the guides here, and the software to do it all is free.

  3. It sounds like you have basically same hardware as me. Dont know how fast your PC is. Mine is 350MHz PIIMMX, 256 MEG. Recommend at least that, but faster CPU would definitely speed things up.
    I use SmartRipper>DVD2AVI>TMPGenc.
I have successfully made several vcds. My DVD player doesnt recognize SVCD, XVCD, etc so all I make is VCD. If you plan on buying a DVD player in near future, check the DVD PLAYER COMPATIBILTY LIST to the left before you buy!!! I wish I had.
You can find all the above software for free somewhere on the internet(check Google possibly) unless you want to go totally legit. Then you could buy the above software from their designer/owner or buy stuff like CinemaCraft Encoder which costs like 2500.00 USD. Recommend the softwares I stated first as all can be found free on the internet.

Good Luck and dont get discouraged. It takes a while to get hang of it. Hint>Check other peoples posts and How-Tos from button to the left.

    HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL!!!

  4. Check http://www.vcdhelp.com/dvdlist/473.html for info on your DVD player. Some people have had problems getting various CDRs to play on that player. And it looks like you can only do VCD.
