  1. Here's the problem -- I want to use a green backdrop, do a chroma key, stand in front of it, SEE what I'm pointing at (with external monitors), and record it. Just like the weatherman on TV. This is so I can do some educational presentations.

Should I get a standalone keyer? (are there any cheap boxes that will do this on a tight budget?)

Or is there a video card that can handle this?

  2. OK, no replies.

How about the Videonics MX-1... that's the cheapest chroma keyer I can seem to find... $450 seems to be the price they're going at on eBay. Is the MX-1 the best bargain?

I can't really answer that, but I can offer some advice.

I'm not sure if you're in a rush, but sometimes these things take time. It is the holiday season (ie. Christmas), so the "ones who know" may be away from their computers for a bit.

Just have a bit of patience.

  6. It did when I saw it demoed at a trade show a few years ago -- it was their main selling point at the time. I see they have free trials so you can check it out.
