If you convert the audio to wav you can combine the clips, then convert the audio back to MP3 or another format when you save them together.

excuse the noobness but are you saying... In NaDub I should open the first file then save the audio of the first file as a wav. Repeat for the 2nd file. Save the first file using the newly made wav file. Repeat for the 2nd file. Then append both? If so, how do I save the final, combined file as MP3? or do I even need to do that step? I want to eventually play it on my standalone Philips which both individual files play fine.

Here's what I'm suggesting...
Open the first file in Vdub (or nandub), ignore the VBR error. Set the video to "direct stream copy" and the audio to "full processing", save avi. You now have a large file with the original video and uncompressed wav audio. Repeat for the second file.
To join them, open the first file that has wav audio then append the second to it. Before saving set the video to "direct stream copy", set the audio to "full processing" but now choose a type of compression for the audio...e.g. MP3.
