  1. Hello everyone, my DVD i burn has points where it freezes up randomly and i'm thinking maybe its because i'm burning the dvd to fast. So i need to change the burn speed at which TMPGenc DVD Author burns. But the Burn section is grayed out! Do you have any idea on how I can tell it to only burn at like 2x insteed of 8x?

See where its grayed out and its stuck on MAX? The max speed my dvd burner can burn is 16x but the dvds only support 8x, and it usually only goes 4x. But i want it super slow maybe it will fix it!

What version of TMPGDvd Author are you using?

The writing tool included with version 1.5 always burn on MAX speed.
The version included with 1.6 allows you to change the burning speed.

If you are using 1.5 you probably can replace the writing tool with the version of the 1.6 (trial)?

  3. Shit i do have 1.5 lol, Do you know any good DVD burning software? I'm trying to use NERO god i hate it! All of mine have expired lol! Do you think the freezing of my DVD video is because of the burning? If the video file itself runs great on the computer?

Ofcourse best to test on other DVD players to see if they work ok, also should try other media.
Some players just have problems with certain media.

And again you can download the trial 1.6 DVD author to burn your DVD at lower speed if you want.

  5. So use IMGTool Classic (to create disc images when necessary) and either DVDDecrypter or IMGBurn to burn them. Many folks (me included) think that method produces the most compatible DVD-Video discs. All free. Use Nero or whatever for everything else. There are even a couple freeware burning programs in the tools section.

I have RecordNow 7.2, it's been fine, but about all I use it for is data discs. I hear Prassi ONES is pretty good, also inexpensive. (TDA uses an older Prassi burning engine.) Good luck.

I just noticed they updated the DVD Writing Tool of the 1.5 version.
Probably when you update the 1.5 version you can choose the burning speed too.

  7. I think that fritzi93 has given you some good advice. The best thing is to make an ISO image and burn it with DVDDecrypter or IMGBurn. DVD Decrypter will allow you to chose the speed at which you want to burn. I usually burn at 4x, there are also some settings you may want to look at in DVD Decrypter. You have the option of "Burn Proof" which you don't have access to in Tmpgenc DVD Author 1.6. There is also and option of "verifying sectors" after you have burned your DVD. DVD Decrypter is a very useful program and I have much more sucess than by just using Tmpgenc DVD Author 1.6 to burn with.

  8. You know, come to think of it, a couple formats/reinstalls ago I had Nero 6.1 something. It totally farked the other burning progs I had on the machine at the time, TDA, RN (earlier version), all except DVDDecrypter and Nero. Nero itself worked okay, pretty much, but I never liked it and got rid of it. Yeah, many other folks have no problems with Nero, but some do and it usually comes down to software conflicts somewhere. If you decide to get rid of Nero, it's a good idea to use the NeroCleanTool. YMMV.

I use TDA writing tool occasionally now to test short clips on a rewritable disc.

  9. Crap on a crap cracker, the DVD works fine on my DVD drive on my computer, doesn't freeze at all! just on my dvd player, does that mean my DVD player is whats messed up not my burnt DVD? Its weird though because my DVD player can play back up DVD's just fine, I would ripp them, then compress them into Single layer instead of double layer and would run perfectly on my DVD player! what gives!! THanks for the info guys! What I tried this time was, used TMPGenc DVD author to convert the DVD into an ISO, then burn the ISO using ImgBurn, same thing though freezing when played on DVD player!

Sometimes the burning application can be a source of playback problems, but the media, the standalone player, the method of authoring or errors in the DVD file itself is the more common cause.

If you suspect the burning program of causing problems, burn with a ISO burning program like DVDDecrypter or similar if possible. With ISO type burning the burning program has the least influence on how the file is handled and burned.

To add, and IMO, if your media will only burn properly at a reduced speed, I would change my media or use a different burner.

What Redwudz said. Seems more likely to be a media problem. Check the manufacturer code of your blanks with DVDinfoPro and post it.

If you take this info from the page you posted:

Media code/Manufacturer ID CMC MAG E01
and look in 'DVD Media' to the left. <<< Put in 'E01' in the box for 'Search DVD Media Code:', that will give you info on that media. You can scroll down to see the manufacturer. Also check the comments and see if your burner or player is mentioned.

A little below the 'DVD Media' are pages for 'DVD Players' and 'DVD Writers'. You can check for your units there and see if there are any media comments for them also.

  14. Ugh, CMC junk. Look here:

    http://www.digitalfaq.com/media/dvdmedia.htm

It's rather likely that's the source of your problems. Try better media from the list at the link provided. Good luck.

    :P LOL

Not so fast, you gotta verify it's the sole cause of the problem. Only you can answer that. Good luck.

  17. I found a grade 3 CD by Philips, same problem, and that one would never give me troubles. Do you think i'm making the DVD wrong? What I did was use TMPGenc DVD Author and in the main menu I selected add File and i added 15 of the .mpgs i created, took up 3.2 gigs, but I didn't select Add DVD Video, because it weasn't in VIDEO_TS. BUt I do have a VIDEO_TS version of it, i'm assuming doing it that way wouldn't change anything. I created the Mpgs from .avi's. THe orginal .avi file had audio/video problems and i fixed them. I then converted them to NTFS VCD's then threw them in DVD Author. Are you thinking my method is incorrect?

  18. No, just suggesting you try known good media. Then you should know if you've solved it or need to troubleshoot some more. :P

When you author in TDA, the add DVD video option is for files already authored. Add files is for compliant MPEGs. If you add MPEG1 video, TDA will resample the audio for you, so no problem. Hard to foul things up in TDA, if it accepts your files, you're good. Good luck and keep at it.
