    Hello,
I am having some major problems converting an XviD file to SVCD format. I am trying to burn this to watch in my standalone, and no program/codec seems to be able to help. I even reformatted yesterday thinking that would help, it didnt.

The .avi seems to be freezing everything I throw at it. Completely locking up my machine, causing me to do a hard reboot. I have tried extracting the audio stream with VirtualDub, using the guides here and encoding to SVCD with TMPGENC. It was freezing around 14-20%. I tried frameserving with VirtualDub, and I got the same issue. I tried converting with Nero 7, same issue. Recently I tried converting with WinAVI, I further with this prog than any of the others; around 45%, but still it froze.

I am running Windows Server 2003, using latest XviD codec. I have been reading these forums for about a week now, and I can't seem to find an answer. If there is anything you can do to help, I greatly appreciate it!

    Cheers..
    Dave

Thanks for the suggestion canadateck. The solution was actually a bit embarassing, my system fan has been quirky for a month or so now, so I believe the CPU was overheating and my machine would just shut down.

I brought the files to a different machine, and they converted fine!

I guess I have to shell out the $50 for a Dell system fan.. Stupid proprietary hardware. I could pick up a 3rd party fan at Micro Center for $12, but of course the voltage and connections are different so they won't work in a Dell. Next time I'm building my own machine
