  1. Hello everyone. I converted those series of .avi's to vcd mpgs then used DVD author to burn to DVD. They play in the dvd player fine audio is on track with video but it freezes like randomly throughout the video. It will be normal then freeze, then continue. I have no idea how to fix this and x-mas is close! Any idea's? Thank you!!! Any help would be great!!

    THe video format is:
    MPEG-1, 352x240 29.97 fps(4:3) NTSC, 1150 kps
    audio:
    MPEG-1 Layer-2, 44100 Hz stereo, 224 kbps
Audio input type: 2 channel sterio

When i'm burning the DVD i can hear the DVD starting and stopping if you know what i mean. Its like spinning and then slowing down, i'm not sure if that would afffect the final video or not! I don't know how fast its burning the DVD because for some reason the DVD burn speed is grayed out! and I see no optoins to change the speed! The DVD supporrts 8x burning speed, my DVD writer will burn up to 16x, god knows how fast its doing it. here is a pic, anyone know if this is the problem? I just tried to burn it with NERO and it burned it at 2.4x and it skips even worse then the burn with TMPGenc DVD Author! The orginal .avi, .mpg is fine, it doesn't skip at all! But when i burn it, its like someone poured a bucket of weaksauce all over it.

  2. What type of media are you burning this on?

80% of all problems are caused by bad/cheap media, sounds like this may be your cause.

  3. I'm not using cheap media persay, I bought 50 DVD's for 15.99, which is cheap but the media itself is made by HP, and I thought they were prettty good with their products. Are you still thinking its media issues? I thought it was odd that when I burnt the DVD with a different DVD burning software it would either be worse or better with freezing when playing. Thanks for the reply, anyone else experience this/resolve this problem of freezing?

  4. I guess cheap is relative. To me, that is very cheap. I'm used to (and happy with) paying about $.40 a disk, but that's for good quality media (Taiyo Yuden).

I'm still leaning towards cheap media. See here for a list of different HP media on this site. The real media code is listed in the table, some of which are known for being poor media.

Some things you MAY be able to do to help with bad media is burn SLOWLY, the slowest speed your burner/media supports. Also, DO NOT burn a full image. Stop way short of the full 4.37G limit. Around 3.5G or so may be good.

Bad media tends to show it's colors towards the edge of the disk. Sometimes you just can't help it and it's going to stink. For only $16 it's not too bad of a lesson.

Stick with good media... Made in Japan = Good, Made in Taiwan = Bad, it's pretty easy to remember. If the same thing happens on good media, let us know, I'm sure we'll figure out the problem, I'm guessing it will be fine.

  5. it could be the player doesnt like properly done incomplient files.
have you tried the same files on a cd,i know my lg wont read stuff like that unless its on a cd and not a dvd.
and to use a dvd,it has to be properly authored, and really just like a store bought one.
some of my cheaper players will play everything i throw at them though.try it on a different player or try it on cd.
