I am new to this lark, and am intending capturing my camcorder tapes to the DVD recorder attached to the telly. I have also purchased a DVD rewriter for the PC.

I would ideally like to be able to load the VOB file in and then mark individual IN and OUT points where they would then be saved into files which could be loaded into an editor (like premiere) for re-building.

I do not want to stick with Premiere as the version I have is very old and took over five hours to compile a 10 minute movie.

So what do I need to edit VOB files into smaller chunks, and furthermore what tool is the quickest in order to compile the selected clips into the final order ready for burning back into the DVD.

Thanks in advance for any feedback.

Use an mpeg editor such as mpeg-vcr or videoredo. If they don't accept VOB files then simply demux the VOBs back to video and audio files and edit from there.
