Im trying to convert a Xvid file i downloaded, its a cap of a tv prog, and gspot tells me the aspect ration is 720x404, 1.78:1 - when i use tmpgenc to convert to compliant mpg file the aspect ratio sucks. What should I select to stay as close to the original as possible? is it 1.1, 4.3, 16.9, 625 lines pal? Im stuck here guys. It was a uk tv capture and I live in UK so it is a pal file.

I realise that the current ratio 1.78:1 720x404 isnt a normal dvd, but I can select 720x576. Is there anyway at all to crop the height slightly, or add black bars top and bottom? If so how do I do that?

  4. Hi-

If so how do I do that?

borax told you how to do that. The question is do you want to do that? It's already 1.78:1. If you're planning on encoding for 16:9 PAL DVD, you should just resize to 720x576. Unless I'm missing something. If encoding for 4:3 DVD, then of course you have to add quite a lot of black bars.
