  1. I created a AVI file using a Casio EX-Z750 camera. Both gspot and AVIcodec identifies the file to be M4S2. When I try to play it back with a handful of different codecs the playback is very distorted. I tried using Windows Media Player, Powerdvd, Nero showtime. I manage to get virtualDub to work after downloading ffdshow and activating M4S2 in the vfw section. The same file plays with no problem when I boot up with my backup dual partition. I'm running XP on both partitions.

That's appears to be a Microsoft codec, Microsoft ISO MPEG-4 Video V1.1

You should be able to get it from Microsoft. It's apparently part of the MS SP2 upgrade.

You should be able to play it with VLC Media Player.

  3. Thanks for the quick reply

I loaded Microsoft's Codecs Installation Package which included

ISO MPEG-4 Video V1.1. It did not help. I also downloaded and tried using

VLC Media Player with no improvement.

I am running XP SP1, do you thing upgrading to SP2 will fix the problem?

Recall my dual partition is also XP SP1 and it plays with no problems.

Thanks in advance for any additonal help.

Probably not. Though it appears to be a codec added with SP2, you should be able to install that codec from other sources and have it work. I suspect the problem is somewhere else, but I don't know where.

VLC should have it's own codec already installed. Use the latest version, of course. If it can't play it properly, then maybe a program is running in the background, stealing CPU cycles or a antivirus or something in the OS is interfering.

You might check with Microsoft to see if anything comes up a with a search of their sites.

How about checking what Casio have to say about it (website...)? Any software that came with the camera? User manual? Finally, the file may have been corrupted during transfer... are you sure the file is OK?

  6. I did Check with Casio before I posted the problem on this website.

Because the same file plays with no problems on my backup XP O.S. they

claim the problem isn't with the camera, which I tend to agree with. Yes,

a user manual and software( Windows Media 9 ) were supplied which I

installed and attempted to use with the same results. The file is definetly

not corrupted because I'm able to play the same file successfully on the

same computer with my alternate O.S. XP SP1 partition.
