Anyone know of a freeware Program to auto-print a small picture every "X" days...to keep Epson printheads from clogging up?

I know I've seen one somewhere, but darned if I can locate it.

There used to be a program like that on the printonadime.com website. They sell CIS systems for this printer. Don't know if this is what you are looking for, but it was listed in the long Best CIS link.

Rather than waste ink and paper why not just run the nozzle cleaner periodically? You can do this on most Epson printers by pressing and holding the color button on the printer for a few seconds. I usually do this before printing if the printer hasn't been used in a few days.

Well, several reasons actually, (although you're certainly right about the waste of paper).

    1) Although, with the CIS, the Epson's probably the cheapest color printer in the house per page, in priority it sits behind several laser printers, and I have 20 reams or so of free (icky quality) paper that I can keep in the printer for it to waste when I'm not actually printing anything. If I print a 1/2 page image, I could actually use each piece of paper 4 times if I wanted to (top & bottom of front and back).

    2) I figure that nozzle cleaning probably wastes a lot more ink than printing a small picture, and it does so into either a waste ink tank (when I get around to rigging one) or into the bottom of the printer.

Either way, it just means resetting the waste ink counter sooner. And by printing, I'm throwing away the "solid" waste ink into the trash, not collecting liquid waste ink somewhere.

    3) I'm erratic in my computer use, so I might forget to do personally performed maintainence on a regular basis.

    4) If I print pictures automatically, if for some reason a clog starts to develop, I'll see it in the streaks in the picture, and I can do something more aggressive like head cleaning.

    5) I've been avoiding Epson printers for about 10 years because I didn't like the way they clog up and their ridiculous non-removable heads, but I need to print directly on CD's so I figure that I'm stuck. Therefore, I might as well do as much as possible to make sure the damned thing (which prints very nice pictures) lasts as long as possible.
