  1. lately i couldnt burn any dvd using my hp burner that came with the system ... does that mean that i have to buy a new one to replace it

    Does the light come on? Will it read a cd or dvd? What messages do you get when you try and burn a dvd? Have you tried a different dvd media brand? Does your computer recognise the dvd player? Is ATA/UDMA on or off? Is DMA enabled? Have you tried new ASPI drivers? etc.

    Try different media. If it burns successfully, then it was probably crap media to blame.

    Try burning a CD. If a CD works yet a DVD doesn't, then there's every chance that the DVD laser is shot and yes, you'll need to buy a new burner.
