tmpenc plus
Though not that often as my wintv caps in mpeg. (though I'm finally getting the fusion 3 hdtv capture card in a few days so I may need to do that more often)
Donatello - The Shredder? Michelangelo - Maybe all that hardware is for making coleslaw? -
This IS a tough choice.
For DVDRebuilder it`s a no-brainer for me, CinemaCraft SP,
Speed...Speed...Speed, Plus Super Quality.
For custom work, it`s a toss-up between TMPGEnc & CCE Sp.

If you use any of the following products, you're using versions of Mainconcept's MPeg2 Encoder
Adobe Premiere (since v6.5) or Encore
Sony Vegas, Movie Studio or DVD Architect
Ulead MediaStudio Pro, DVD Workshop, DVD MovieFactory, VideoStudio
Lumiere HD (HDV on FCPro)
Discrete Cleaner XL
Sonic DVD Producer, MyDVD, PrimeTime, AuthorScript

I voted and use CCE Basic. The interface takes a while to learn, but I'm getting good results overall. I like the adjustable 2D filter that's built-in. It gets rid of a lot of grain. It's fast too, compared to TMPGenc 3.0 which I also have. I couldn't stand it anymore using TMPGEnc, it's so slow. But TMPGEnc is good for beginners and those who don't care to leave their computer on all night long to encode.

Maybe with the "Project Wizard" it's good for beginners, but overall, very advanced encoder 8)
And the last time i remember needing to let it actually take all night was back when 500mhz were top of the line -
For progressive sources (e.g., DVDs run thru DVD2SVCD): CinemaCraft Encoder.
For interlaced sources: Canopus ProCoder v2.0.
When I need it really quick: MainConcept Encoder. -
TMPGEnc 3 Xpress Mostly, some TMPGEnc Plus, some CCE Basic, and of course the hardware encoder in the DVD Recorder. and once in a while for something that just won't go for some reason, that one click wonder DVD Santa reauthored with TMPGEnc DVD Author.
Cheers -
I mostly use TMPGenc plus 2.5. Especially when I re-encode my DVB sources to DVD valid framesizes.
Then comes Mainconcept ...La Linea by Osvaldo Cavandoli

MainConcept HD version, it's fast, reliable and quality is great, far better then TMPGEnc 3 atleast for me.
I used trial version of TMPGEnc 3 and it was very slow compared to MainConcept so my 100% conversions are with mainconcept when i am doing standalone conversions are editing then exporting with Premiere Pro 1.5
