Hello, sorry if this problem has been discussed already (i did try to search but there are just so many different posts).
I have a bunch of divx avi files that I tried to put on DVDs. I used the following 2 different methods:
1. using the 2-click-winavi-video-converter method
2. converting to mpeg via gui4ffmpg and then using tmpenc author to create the dvd
in both cases my dvds are choppy (method 2) or extremely choppy (method 1) on my panasonic dvd player...
Anyone have an idea on how to fix it?
thx

Are you doing some frame rate conversion? (PAL -> NTCS or vice versa)
/Mats -
well I converted it to pal, so yes... is that the cause? what can i do about it?

Search the guides (and fora) for NTSC to PAL conversion.
IIRC, vso divxtodvd is rumored to handle these situations with grace too.

Usually the all-in-one converts are not good at doing their job.
I suggest you convert audio & video separately and then use the individual audio & video streams in TDA or any other authoring software to create DVD.When I was born I was so shocked that I could'nt speak for 18 months. -
Thank you for your answers
@sanjayk
I tried that route, but you have to seperate audio and video with virtual dub, then convert the video to mpeg with tmpgenc and then author the dvd with tmp plus! a 5 hour process on my athlon xp 2800!!!!
that's too much of a hassle for me. I don't want to spend my weekends in front of the computer making sure i handled every step correctly
@mats
you are probably right, the stream is ntsc and I was outputting pal. will try outputting ntsc without converting since my hardware is ntsc compatible -
Good call. Most PAL hardware has no problems with NTSC video.

A big "thank you" to mats.hogberg
I used vso divxtodvd (the free version) to convert my avi file (+700MB) to DVD (+2.9GB) and burnt it onto my DVD. The result is excellent.
Thanks to this forum, too. Many useful and friendly guidances. -
Did you still get choppy playback at all?
