Recorded DVDs not read by DVD writer that made them

I recently put a home made DVD in my DVD player that previously read that DVD. It froze about 3/4ths the way through it. I then tried to play it in the DVD drive that originally recorded the DVD in my computer. It froze in the same place.

The DVD is clean and scratch free. I have checked several other of my home made DVDs and about 1/2 of them in random order do the same thing.

I bought a new LiteOn DVD writer and it can't read them either. I am desperate for help on how I can copy these DVDs to new media so they will play. I have put so much work into all of these DVDs and can't imagine having to remake and edit them.

What brand is the dvd media that you recorded those home made dvd? Use DVDINFO PRO or DVD IDENTIFIER to find out the media id on those discs.

I once used some very inexpensive media that did not freeze but would stutter on playback. DVDInfoPro showed no read errors although in the speed test, it showed sudden drops in speed at the places stuttering occurred. I made an exact copy of the stuttering disk to a Taiyo Yuden disk which played back back perfectly. It might be worth a try. DVDInfoPro is freeware. Just click on the Tools tab to your left.

I have tried burning the DVDs on new blank media from Sony, but my original sony DVD writer can't read the disc nor can my new LiteOn DVD writer. I am unable to use my computer to make a new copy on the better quality media.

The DVDinfo Pro finds errors on my disc, but I have no idea what to do with the information. Is there a way I can repair the disc or just ignore those bad sectors so I can burn a new copy?

Sounds like the recorder is going bad. Ive had one do similar to that, replacing it solved all my recording problems. My old one was working just fine for about 6 months, that weird things started. Bye Bye, my new NEC is working great!

I have purchased a new drive for recording new DVDs, but I still have about 20 previously made home DVDs that don't work. Any suggestions on how to copy those to new media? I spent about 6 hours making each one and don't want to have to remake them.
